I made it! 26.2 miles later, and I can officially call myself a marathoner! Granted, an extremely slow marathoner, but I am one nonetheless.
I just want to take a moment to say a sincere thank you for all the kind words, prayers and encouragment over the past few months as I have been training. It’s crazy how the things people say really stick in your head so that you are able to pull them out when you really need it (mile 18 for example). So, thank you!! You are incredible, and your words literally inspire me!
Because I am someone who likes order, I’m going to start my marathon experience on Saturday with the Expo. I promise, the marathon post is coming very soon!
On Saturday morning, I headed to Disney’s Wide World of Sports for the Expo and packet pick-up.
It was perfectly organized chaos which is what Disney does so well.
I naturally had to get a few souvenirs from the expo. I got the gray “I did it!” shirt and car decal, a runDisney sweaty band, a spi-belt (lifesaver) and some mini chafing cream (didn’t even use).
I was very impressed with the quality of Disney’s expo. Everything was completely organized, and there was a lot to see and do.
After the expo, my parents took me over to the Port Orleans resort where I would be staying for the night. If you ever run any Disney race, I highly suggest that you stay on property the night of your race. Disney makes the process of getting to the start line on time so easy. The only thing I had to worry about was making sure I had everything I needed for the race.
After dropping my bags off, we went for an earlier dinner. I tried to eat a fairly healthy meal. At this point, I was more concerned about fueling my body properly than ordering what I really wanted **cough** jumbo margarita**cough**. I knew all the fun food would be coming after my marathon.
Grilled chicken breast, baked potato, steamed veggies and bread – lots of bread!
I got back to my hotel room just in time to shower and lay everything out for the morning.
At around 9, I went to bed to try to get a good night’s sleep.
My 3:15 AM wake-up call would be here before I knew it…
What was the highlight of your weekend?
