OK, I have a confession. This isn’t my first rodeo. I’ve given this whole blogging thing a go before, but it didn’t quite work out for me. You see, I think my problem was that I didn’t quite know what I wanted to write about yet. I was blogging about what I thought I should be blogging about instead of what I really wanted say. I thought that if I didn’t post a picture of my every meal that I was failing as a blogger somehow. In short, I was trying to hard to be like everyone else.
Do y’all remember the movie What a Girl Wants? I love it in all its cheesy, Colin Firth dancing in leather pants glory.
One line from that movie has stuck with me over the years. Amanda Bynes’ character was trying to conform her free-spirited, fun-loving self to fit the aristocratic world of her father when her super cute musician boyfriend says to her: “Why are you trying so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out?” Deep stuff for a fluffy little comedy, folks. I’m not saying my blogging identity crisis was anything serious, but this line kind of sums everything up for me.
I can’t guarantee that I’m going to work-out everyday and post about it. I can’t promise delicious recipes with descriptive step-by-step photos. I can’t even promise that I will blog every single day (although, I will try my best).
I can promise you that I will blog about my life – the pretty and the ugly. I know that with so many blogs out there, it can be tough trying to decide which ones make it into your daily reading file. Since I try to be a helpful person, I’ve compiled a little list to make your decision easier. I like to call this ‘My Top 5 Favorite Things to Talk About’ list. If they are yours too, then we should probably friends. So here we go, in no particular order…
Movies, TV, Books and Music- I’m practically a walking Barnes and Noble. I am not an elitist. I love all of the four topics equally. I technically specialized my BA in Communications in film and television studies. What was I expecting to do? I have no clue. I think I just wanted to be able to watch really great films and discuss them with people smarter than myself.
Food – No, this isn’t going to be one of those blogs where I document everything that I put in my mouth. That being said, I really do love some good food (I am from the South after all, y’all).
Running and working out in general – Let’s get something straight from the start, I am not a serious runner. By that, I mean that I am someone who runs for completion and not time. I like to consider myself a bit of a girl next door runner if you will. Running is not my sole source of exercise. I love a good pilates class. I teach spin at my local gym. And occasionally, I like to get my Michael Phelps on in a pool. I work out because I know it will benefit me in the long run (pun may or may not be intended).
Travel – Oh, to have the luxury of being rich enough to travel wherever I wanted whenever I wanted! I’m not quite a world renowned traveler yet, but I hope to be one day. My parents did a really great job of giving me opportunities to see the world throughout my childhood. From a young age, I’ve had an appreciation for different cultures. I enjoy seeing and experiencing different ways of life first hand. I guess John Steinbeck sums it up for me: “People don’t take trips. Trips take people.
Life – Most importantly, I am so thankful for my life. It’s not perfect by any means, but it’s in progress. The thing that I love about blogging is that as much as people try to define their blogs as “running,” “healthy eating” or “fashion,” it all comes down to one thing: life. We all just want to share life with one another.
On that note, I would like to personally invite you to share in my life a little each day through this blog, and I would love the opportunity to share in yours as well.
